An afternoon with Alfonso Ramo
As the winner of the biggest prize in any FIFA tournament, the FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC), Alfonso Ramo has a lot to brag about. With US$20,000 in the bag and the chance to meet some of the greatest footballers in real life at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala in Switzerland, Ramo has long been the envy of many FIFA players the world over.
Taking time off in-between his hectic schedule of training and sipping wine with the stars (minor exaggeration), the two time FIFA Interactive World Champion has decided to lend some insight into his life by taking a few questions from us.
Rapture Gaming: Hi Ramo! Can you tell us what it was like when you won the penalty shootout at the FIFA Interactive World Cup finals against Bruce Grennec last year in Dubai?
Ramo: Hey guys, it was one of the best moments in my life! 2008 was special but 2012 was the chance to be the first player in all FIFA history to win the FIWC twice.
Rapture Gaming: As we all know Ramo, you possess one of the best first touches in the game and also known for your cool finishes and rapid counter attacking play style. How was it like to meet the likes of (Cristiano) Ronaldo, Neymar, Torres, Xavi, Pique and Rooney, the real champions who possess the same skills you have but in real life?
Ramo: Well, everybody knows I use Ronaldo a lot! (*Laughs) I [like to] relive the 2009 experience because it was great! I was talking with all the players and a lot of them like Xavi and Xabi Alonso or Messi remember me!
Rapture Gaming: You are the first person in the world to win the FIWC twice, tell us what was going through your mind when you won the second one?
Ramo: (It) was amazing but I had to suffer a lot. That penalty shootout was dramatic. I barely remember the PK’s so I had to watch it again after several days.
Rapture Gaming: With two titles under your belt, how are you preparing to defend your crown in Madrid in a few months time? And how will you be managing your playing time especially with your current work schedule?
Ramo: I’m not actually training yet. I have enough time I think, I’ll start again at the end of March. One month (of practice) is enough to win the title again!
Rapture Gaming: Can you share some of your tactics with our readers? Such as the team formations you usually use and how you stay focused during the game?
Ramo: Right now I’m trying out a 4-2-3-1 formation, but I also play with my all-time favourite 4-2-2-2. The point in these great and big competitions is to say focused from the first minute to the 90th, because if you lose concentration for just a second, you can lose the game with just one mistake.
Rapture Gaming: The FIWC Grand Finale is round the corner, can you tell us who is the toughest opponent you’ve faced in your career thus far?
Ramo: There are a lot but I would say Grannec because the match [in the FIWC 2012 finals] was really tough and it being the Grand Final, there was a lot of pressure.
Rapture Gaming: Thanks for your time Ramo! Before you go, we would like to ask if there’s anything else you’d like to say to our readers here at Rapture Gaming Network?
Ramo: Thanks for reading the interview! If you want to ask me more questions follow me on Twitter or my Facebook page!
