The Grand Conclusion to the FIFA Ultimate Team Championship
Mark your calendars FIFA 13 Ultimate Team enthusiasts, for the day of reckoning is upon us. The epic conclusion of nearly a month long of games, qualifiers, triumph and heartbreak is now in sight — and that date is the 23 March, 2013. To be held at Avalon, Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Singapore, the event promises to dish out the biggest prize money in FIFA Ultimate Team history with a massive AUD$10,000 going to the winner. With some of the best FIFA 13 players from Australia, Japan and Singapore set to take the stage, the event looks to be an incredibly testing affair for these competitors.
The Singapore qualifiers, which were played out during the first weekend of March at the Funan DigitaLife Mall, saw many hopefuls and a slew of familiar names. Despite the notable lack of Flash representation in the tournament, the event was far from dull as several underdogs took to slaying some of the giants in the scene. Upsetting Singapore’s 2011 WCG Champion Kim07 in the 1st follow up round was gninja, who stayed true to form to become the third and final Singaporean representative to the Ultimate Team Finals after putting El Pistolero to the sword with a convincing 4-1 win in the bronze match.
Joining gninja are compatriots kickers_kamil and former Flash eSports and Desperation Move player, Zarate. Both of whom enjoyed a relatively easy route to the Finals where the reigning Clementi Games Festival Champion trumped his kicker’s counterpart 3-2. All three finalists earned for themselves SG$500 and a two night stay at a hotel in the city prior to game night on 23 March.
Organizer Bryan “nirvAnA” Choo who was on site to oversee the qualifiers, was incredibly excited at the prospect of seeing the Ultimate Team Finals unfold at Avalon. “We went down the other day to take a look at the Avalon venue,” he said, “for those who may not know, Avalon is on an island that overlooks the Marina Bay and it is amazing!”
“There will be free food and drinks for those who turn up at the event. There hasn’t been an event like this in Singapore so I hope to see tons of people show up for the tournament and maybe we can see more of these in the future!” Returning to the casting table will be the commentators from the Singapore qualifier, David Shawn Michael and Muhd Siddiq. The duo, whose stellar casting earned the steam over 100,000 viewers at various points in time will be back to cover proceedings at MBS later this month.
