Let's have a chat with Chat legend StarCraft with: BroodWar Vietnam and also a No.1 StarCraft II player in the S-shaped country - ThuocLao.
RGN: As a player who perhaps had the most opportunity to join international competition in Vietnam at the time, how do you feel before every trip?
ThuocLao: For each tournament, I learned many attractive things from international gamers. From the way they greet, they talk to compete. They are very friendly and professional.
RGN: What is your most memorable moment on your trips? Particularly the coming tournament in Japan and Korea?
ThuocLao: Maybe it's the tour to Singapore in 2011 and the most recent is Japan and Korea. Those trips bring me a lot of feelings.
RGN: Specifically, what are those fellings?
ThuocLao: In Singapore, I've met brothers in VK clan who are a group of Vietnamese students currently studying in Singapore. And in Japan, we also held a little party ourselves at an Australian gamer's room. They are unforgettable memories.
And in Korea, because here is the eSports' land so I could feel the eSport atmosphere everywhere. Audiences was so enthusiastic and the organize process was super professional.
RGN: At the moment, the number of StarCraft's players in Vietnam is not much. So do you think what could be the reasons?
ThuocLao: There are many reasons. Firstly, StarCraft belongs to hardcore category, which is not appropriate for Vietnamese. Moreover, it costs 60 USD for a key that is equal to 1,2 million VND so not everyone can afford.
Beside that, hardwares and network in general in Vietnam is not really good so it's hard for gamers to experience fully this awesome game. So just few people decided to buy key.
RGN: Do you have any difficulties in practicing when very few gamers in Vietnam have practicing condition Starcraft 2?
ThuocLao: StarCraft II is a great game that has limited lag problem, unlike BroodWar. The connection with the foreign players is not really a concern anymore. But as I said, not everyone can experience the game, the number of StarCraft II players is very few in Vietnam so I have to practice alone with the foreign players. Sometimes I feel ... a little lonely. To play with other domestic gamers is always more fun!
Without the competitive scene so Vietnamese gamers, included me, develop very slow.
RGN: How about language problem?
ThuocLao: The communication is pretty difficult to me because I'm not really good at English. However, that's not really a great issue. Currently, I'm playing 2 versions are NA/SEA and Taiwan/Korea to improve my skills. Gamer of Taiwan/Korea version rarely communicate by English so I just play in silence *laugh*
RGN: Do you have any memorable moments during the training period? Did you receive any supports from someone? Or you just practice by yourself?
ThuocLao: At the beginning, I played with few friends in Vietnam community, I also had difficulties to get used to the game. But with the supports from Booser or Duylove, I gradually love the game more. The more I play, the more I am drawn by StarCraft 2.
RGN: Why do you choose StarCraft 2 to go with not any eSports type else?
ThuocLao: Actually, at first I did not like StarCraft II's concept because I love Broodwar. But by a business trip, my friends told me about that game and it made me curious so I tred StarCraft II. In addition to StarCraft II, I also play other genres, such as Cross Fire or CS 1.6.
RGN: Why not hot MOBA game tittles such as DotA 2, HoN or LoL?
ThuocLao: I havent seen any appeal from that yet. Or maybe my friends haven't drawn me into the game yet!
RGN: So it means in the future, it your friend invite to play those games, you will also "jump in"?
ThuocLao: Haha! Maybe... But the problem is the lack of teams. Sometimes playing with other Vietnamese gamers, they often abuse teammates, i don't like.
RGN: Thanks for your sharing! Hope you will be strong and compete well in the future!
