Singapore FIFA Cup was called off in April, and boy did we miss it. On 26 May, spectators at Tough Cookie Gaming Cafe were treated to a delicious offering of virtual footballing action, packed full of goals, skills and ridiculous team selections.
There were exciting match ups in the early stages. Defending champion Kickers.kim07 was knocked out in the quarterfinal in straight sets by his teammate Kickers.Amos. Elsewhere, I (Flash.hibidi) was matched up with AEON’s Zarate (who played under the name of Cheeseburger) in the round of 16 once again, and managed to pull off a fortuitous win, 2-1 in sets.
Players naturally use the best teams (Madrid, Milan, Brazil) in competitions so that they stand the best chance of winning, which is why myself and a many others were absolutely shocked, amazed and confounded when we heard about players like Erwyn ‘Flash.El Rey’ Shah and Annop ‘superfatfatty’ Hayeeuma picking teams like Dortmund, Arsenal and Barcelona.
These two youngsters went all the way to the final, and in some style. Erwyn exacted revenge on Kickers.Amos for knocking him out of FIFA Cup 2, while superfatfatty knocked me out in the other semi-final.
The final between them was one to remember. We witnessed brilliant attacking play from both sides. Superfatfatty took the first set in convincing fashion. But El Rey, by the skin of his teeth, took set 2 via a penalty shootout before wrapping up the series 2 sets to 1 with a stunning 5-0 win in set 3. Erwyn took home his second FIFA Cup gold medal, as well as a cool $100 and a Cooler Master Spawn Mouse.

El Rey [Champion] and Flash.hibidi [2nd runner-up]
Erwyn ‘Flash.El Rey’ Shah is now top of the FIFA Cup leaderboard with 21 points, a point ahead of me (20 points), and 9 ahead of kim07 (12 points). The race to secure the top spots, and top seeds at WCG Singapore 2012 is certainly heating up. The 4th Singapore FIFA Cup will take place at the end of June. Expect fireworks.
