Xeria Gaming, a professional StarCraft 2 team from Australia, is bringing their brand of competitive e-gaming to South East Asia in the form of the Xeria Gaming Team League this May, 2012. Packing the roster with a star-studded lineup, the competition is set to pit some of South East Asia’s brightest talents over a very nice sum of AUD$650, not including the AUD$2000 worth of hardware prizes.
Organized by Xeria team manager Benji, with the help of marketing manager Arnor, the competition is slated to be the first ever Xeria Gaming branded event. However, despite this being the team’s first furore at hosting, Benji is adamant that the organizing duo remains undaunted. “[Although] this is our first international event, we are no strangers to hosting events. In the past we have assisted one of our sponsors (City Hunter) with organizing events, however this is on a completely different scale, and we hope that it will be a success.”

Benji’s optimism comes amid grander plans to build and grow the StarCraft 2 eSports scene within South East Asia. “After participating in the events (TCL, Taiwan), we saw how such a well run event really brings the community together and builds the scene,” elaborates the team manager on the motivation for hosting the tournament, “looking at our region, we don’t have any consistently run team leagues, which is why we want to step in and create a league for the teams—to encourage them to grow, pick up more players and to support them.”
“It’s very interesting [to see] that [although] the 3 Taiwan teams, the Thai team and the team from Philippines speak English as their second language, we are all united in our love for gaming,” notes Benji, “it is interesting that something as significant as language does not stop us in uniting behind the game we love.”
Team Xeria Gaming
Announced on 19th April 2012, were 8 of the 9 teams that will be participating in the games, and they are (in no particular order); Xeria Gaming, Mineski, StorM, Flash, Sequential, Gama Bears, Wayi Spiders and MiTH. “I think the most exciting aspect will be seeing how the local teams stack up against the Taiwanese professional teams (Wayi Spiders and Gama Bears) because in Taiwan they compete weekly on free to air TV and in team houses. From my point of view, it can also strengthen ties between our two regions, and this will help grow both scenes.”
With the main league starting in June, time is running out for interested parties to throw their name in the hat for the only open category slot. Interested teams may look up more information on the official competition page, or contact and submit details directly to Xeria here.
