Interview with Team Dignitas Aui_2000 about their DOTA2 International invite.
Team Digitas website published an interview with the team's carry player Kurtis 'Aui_2000' Ling. Cheewilly discuss several topics including the DOTA2 squad's first invitation to Seattle and his reaction.
Cheewilly: Congratulations on the TI3 invite! How did you react when you got the news?
Aui_2000: Thanks. I was happy but I don't think it means as much to me as some other players.
Cheewilly: Do you have any special strategies saved for the International?
Aui_2000: We don't really have any strategies that we could save for three months. Every tournament and match coming up to TI3 is going to be important and who knows how the meta game is going to change right up to TI3.
Cheewilly: One of Dignitas' strengths is that its roster has been very stable compared to that other teams. However there have been some slight changes lately (Sneyking leaving, Universe joining, Tidesoftime leaving and Sneyking rejoining). Has this had any effect on your teamwork?
Aui_2000: I think that we've improved in terms of team work, Sney’s more or less always been a part of the team. It’s a familiar transition back to playing with him. There are some things to get used to for everyone but overall we’re a better team.
Cheewilly: The Chinese teams dominated the competition at the last International, is this something you expect to see repeated this year?
Aui_2000: I expect the Chinese to do well but for the western scene to actually be able to put up a fight and compete for the top spots. The west is a stronger scene than it was last year and there are no weak teams going into the tournament.
Cheewilly: TI3 brings together the best of the best in Dota 2. Are there any specific teams you're strategising against?
Aui_2000: TI3 is in three months so we can't really prepare strats now. We'll have something for every team come TI3 though.
Cheewilly: Are there any teams that you're expecting to take the two qualifier spots?
Aui_2000: EG from the west and I haven't really done any research on the east qualifier teams yet. EG’s probably the most experienced and individually skilled team on there. Most of their roster was there last year and they look to be getting back in form.
Cheewilly: The meta game has been fairly stable over the past few months with heroes like Magnus, KOTL and Batrider consistently in the first picks and bans. Do you think this is likely to change before the international?
Aui_2000: Yes, because I've seen reports that there will probably be a patch before ti3. The metagame is also constantly shifting, 3 months is a long time and new heroes are coming out all over the place.
Cheewilly: TI3 is the million dollar tournaments, but apart from this there are very few large prize pools in Dota 2 at the moment. Is it a challenge making a living as a professional player?
Aui_2000: Not really. Making a living from DotA2 is actually quite good right now assuming full time and proper work put in. There are a lot of avenues you can go down that can create revenue as long as you do it right and put in the work. While the distribution is still top heavy, the competition now is less than it would be in five or so years. It's really the future job viability that makes DotA as a career hard.
