Leading Flash’s WCG DOTA 2 charge at TGX 2012

Reuben Soh on 2012-09-05

In July 2012, founder of Flash E-Sports, Terence Ting, announced his outfit’s first furor into MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) scene with the team’s very first professional DOTA 2 squad. Having revealed that they will be participating at this year’s TGX 12, we inquisitive folk at Rapture Gaming have decided to pop on by to see how preparations are like for the newly established five. Speaking to us through an email interview, captain of Flash’s DOTA 2 squad, Jeremy “Azione” Teo details the progress of his team in the lead up to their baptism of fire at the WCG Singapore qualifiers.

“To be honest, we’re always scrimming in pub games and matches daily with stand-ins,” assesses Jason of their daily training routine, “[because of that] we don’t usual win our pub games!” Now although the revelation may prove somewhat disheartening at first glance, given the team’s propensity for radical game strategies a bleak situation may quickly turn into one that greatly favors them—and it’s this sort of gaming changing stunts that can take you through the tough fixtures.

“Everyone has lots of crazy ideas! Our carry “Lyralei” loves to come up with insane strategies and well for him, it’s always either going for broke or going home,” explains the captain. His team of five, which spots other established players such as Wen Ming “Eminence” Heng, Nicholas “Sinister” Kong, Alvin “Lyralei” Tan and Joseph “Miligan” Lim, hail from a variety of gaming backgrounds such as DotA and HoN (Heroes of Newerth), but chemistry has never been an issue.

“We did play together for quite some time (prior to the formation of the team), but mostly in scrims and trolling in pub games,” he laughs. Having won the Starhub Invitational competition in the recent year, Jason looks to carry on the winning theme at Flash, which has become somewhat of familiar phenomenon in their other departments such as FIFA and StarCraft 2. The coming WCG nationals though, may just prove to be the acid test the group needs to measure their worth in the very much developing landscape of Dota 2.

“We’re actually working towards that as our main goal but it’s going to take lots of hard work and practice to get us there.” echoes the team lead in response to the lofty expectations placed on his team, “[however] at the moment, we're still on a short break due to exams and work commitments from a few of our players.”

“Big shout outs to SOCKS GE and our sponsors, Cooler Master CM Storm, Colosseum, Gunnars, MAGES and Zepy Games for their support!”

If you’d like to catch Jason in action as the captain to Flash’s very first Dota 2 team, make sure you head on down to the Singapore Expo from the 7th of September to the 9th for the WCG nationals.
