Stay Green Wins HoN GSL 2013

 

 

The Garena Star league (GSL) 2013 is the biggest eSports tournament in Thailand and it features games like Point blank and Heroes of Newerth (HoN). This time round, the Garena event took place at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Thailand, from 30 - 31 March.

The center of attention was no doubt the HoN tournament which boasted a prize pool of 2,500,000 Baht. The contest brought together a number of famous teams; a total of 16 Thai teams and 8 invited teams that included the likes of Trademark Esport HoN, the reigning World Champion from Dream HoN Winter 2012 and Stay Green, the Champion from USA, just to name a few.

The first day revealed the top 16 teams that would later compete in the playoff stages the following day. The first team to secure qualification was Stay Green, who won all their games. They were followed closely by Orange Esports who, after a defeat to KooN, finished in second spot.

 

Group B saw three teams tie for tops and they were Turtle Master, MITH.OHP and Cat Gaming. Elsewhere, team S2y and Yamaha made it through to the next round following the qualification of team Focus in second. Lastly in Group D, Team Impunity from Singapore racked up five wins to seal their spot in the top 16, closely followed by Neolution MRR.

 

Even before the finals the two best teams of the tournament came face to face and they were Stay Green and Trademark Esports. In an amazing show of grit and determination, which saw Trademark Esports being knocked down into the Losers' Bracket by Stay Green in the previous round, the team fought hard against S2y and Yamaha to face Stay Green again.

 

Stay Green was no doubt the best team throughout the event as they were seemingly unbeatable throughout the two days of the competition – and put on an impressive display by beating Trademark Esports, taking the first set 2-0.

 

 

In the second half of the final set, despite a stronger showing from Trademark Esports, they could not turn the tide against a resilient Stay Green who rightfully emerged the victor of the tie and tournament with prize money 900,000 Baht in the bag.
