Not afraid of challenges
RGN : Firstly, could you tell us a little more about yourself?
Pim:
Hello everyone, my full name is Nguyen Ngoc Tram, I am 20 years old, and I am currently a first year student of National University.
RGN : Do you remember the exact time when you started gaming? What was the first game that you played?
Pim:
I started gaming since young. To be exact, it was around the time when I was still in grade 1. I used to play an electronic machine of my fathers’ which had 4 buttons on it. I then learnt how to play Half-Life 1 on the computer when I was 10 years old.
RGN : What is it about CS that attracts you? Is it a game with strong style?
Pim:
Actually, I don’t know much about it, maybe deep in my heart I just like to game. At that point of time, I lived with my family with my younger brothers. Watching them play would grab my attention!
RGN : Afterwards, how did you get familiar with DotA. Is there anything special about it?
Pim:
I have been playing DotA for over a year. In the past, I used to play CF but the problem with hacking was very rampant and that frustrated me a lot. Then I found out that many people were playing DotA. I was curious as to why, so I went back home, downloaded GG, installed WarCraft and starting playing. I played gradually and felt an addiction to it so I decided to play DotA only.

RGN : Certain games, such as CS, CF or DotA often require players to have skills of a certain level. Did you have any difficulties playing these games?
Pim:
It is difficult because all games have their own challenges. But when I like it, I will play it. To me, winning is not very important. There isn’t a game where I started out good. It takes time to train and learn. Regardless of its difficulty, I will play it as long as I like it.
RGN : Where do you think your standard of gameplay stands?
Pim:
I am just a new, fresh gamer, hahaha. But as I game, I get to know some good gamers along the way. They teach me so much. I play DotA mainly because of my interest. Sometimes I play very well, sometimes not. Overall, my current level is still like a “chick”^^
RGN : Does gaming give you something, or can gaming create changes for you? For example, relationships or friendships?
Pim:
Gaming gives me pleasure, it also helps me to make friends. Among them, there are many good and funny friends. Speaking of changes, I actually don’t feel much about it. To many people, gaming means gaming, girls are girls. Some people think that girls who like gaming are “Tomboys”, but in reality, it isn’t true.

RGN : Suppose that someone catches you in a Gaming store, playing CS or DotA. How do they normally react when they see you are playing there?
Pim:
Some people do not notice, some people feel surprised, others will ask me to play together.
RGN : Normally, how much time do you spend gaming, does gaming affect your personal life?
Pim:
Some days I play a lot, some days I play less. The average time is about 4-5 hours/day, it could be more. I have been a little busy lately so I don’t have the time to play. Gaming does not affect me in a bad way, but without games, I would feel bored.
RGN : Many female gamers share that their family and parents don’t allowed them to game. Have you encountered similar situations?
Pim:
No, I think gaming isn’t a thing to prevent. My parents do not interfere with it because I am being an adult. Sometimes they like me playing game and support me, just as long as I do not get too addicted to it, or stay up too late, which could affect my health.
RGN : A personal question for you, the games you play are quite strong and masculine. In reality, do you have a strong personality like in games?
Pim:
I am not sure^^

RGN : Besides gaming, do you have any other fortes or hobbies?
Pim:
I like listening to music and reading books. To be more precise, I actually prefer reading novels.
RGN : Which stories or novels intrigues you and makes you feel a connection?
Pim:
“If tomorrow comes” by Sidney Sheldon.
RGN : What do you like most in this story? What is the story about?
Pim:
The story has a great plot. This story is about a girl suddenly lost everything, but she still stands up. She is very beautiful and smart; no one can be like her. Sometimes, stories are just stories.
RGN : Do you have any plans for your future?
Pim:
I just want to complete my degree. I have no big plans whatsoever.
RGN : In the future, would you quit gaming if you are too busy with university or work?
Pim:
I would not give up completely, but I still play within limits^^
RGN : Thank you very much for this interview. Wish you would gain success and achieve what you want.
