My interview with an anGel.<3

This article would be the most interesting, exciting, longest (LOL!), and the most beautiful article that I have ever written down so far. We all know that being a female gamer has more pressure than the gamer in opposite gender, alot of expectations and of course, sometimes they have to face with some discrimination. Today, we bring you an exclusive interview with one of the famous and strongest main carry of girls bracket at all DotA tournaments in Philippines, none other Milcah Angelica Cristina R. Dacanay, also known as "PMSki.anGeL.<3".

RGN: Who's Angel?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: I’m just a simple, ordinary girl . Others may think different cause I’m a DotA player, but I’m just normal. I go to school, eat rice, talk to simsimi, read 9GAG, spend 15 hours on Facebook, and have crush on someone.

Oh, there's just one thing that is not-so-normal, I don’t like sleeping, haha. Seriously, I’m an accountancy student of Jose Rizal University. I’m a scholar (eventhough it’s not obvious because you would normally see me in front of the computer, holding mouse and keyboard, playing Dota). I’m a frustrated architect, engineer, designer, journalist, detective, and trouble-shooter, haha.

I have 4 siblings, and I’m the 2nd child (but I’m the eldest daughter). I’m naughty, talkative, and friendly. I’m not so girlish, but I’m a cowboy, haha. Cause I don’t like "maarte" also. I grew up with my two brothers, so I am used to which boys are doing. So it’s okay if you would date me and let me eat kwekkwek, fishball and adidas, HAHA. What else? Nothing much. I’m just a girl with big blue eyes and straight copper hair, <3

 

RGN: How did you learn to play DotA?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: My younger brother taught me playing DotA first. All the games that I played, I learned from him. I was playing GunBound in the shop, and he was playing DotA, so I saw him and asked him what he was playing. And then, there you go, he taught me DotA. Do you know that the first hero that he taught me to play is Shadow Fiend (SF)? It was so hard for a newbie like me to learn a hero with those skills. My brain wanted to explode that time. MYGADDDDD! LOL!

 

RGN: Among all the online and LAN games, why did you choose DotA?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: I chose DotA cause it’s interactive . I can play with my friends, and other people I know. I like logic and critical thinking, and DotA is a strategy game, so I like it. It has a competitive level, so that give me more motivation to pursue playing this game. DotA is addictive, very addictive! (You know what I mean).

 

RGN: How did you become part of team PMSki?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: They had their try out last October 2010 . I was playing DotA for only 4 months at that time, I was also like I had some doubts whether I would join or not. But my friends told me that I should, and then, I tried. I had to take a writting exam and a on-hand exam (in-game), and fortunately, I passed. Thank God, I became a part of this wonderful team. ^____________^

 

RGN: How do you feel when being a part of the team?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: When I became a part of the team, I felt very happy . It was a "WOW" for me because I was finally being a member of the Philippines' pioneer all-girls DotA team, and the strongest all-girl team at that time. However, obviously, being a part of the team comes with great responsibility. I have to do what I need to do for the team, and contribute all I can for its benefit. However, I feel very blessed. I didn’t just become a part of PMSki, I also found my true friends and beloved sisters.

 

RGN: What is your favorite heros in DotA?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: Tinker, Qop, SF, DK, Lanaya, Anubarak, Lion, ES, Rikimaru

 

RGN: What is your role in the team inside and outside the game?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: I’m the Main Carry inside the game, the mid laner. Outside ? I don’t know what I am, but I just do what I think I should. I can be a friend when they need me and a companionwwhen they have no one. I do love this team so much, and I’ll be what it needs me to be.

 

RGN: Why did you use PMSki as your team name? 

PMSki.anGeL.<3: Originally, it’s pmski (Petchay Mineski). They called it “Petchay” because we were all girls team. Then, PMS Asterisk* asked us to be part of their family as well, so eventually, we changed the team name to PMSki, instead of pmski.

 

RGN: Who/What inspires you to play DotA?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: WHO? hahahah. Hmm, of course my idols in DotA inspires me. I want to become like them, and I also have a dream of competing globally. I want to prove that girls are not just plain girls. We can compete and outstand in an industry that is most dominated by men. So when you say Girls, you don’t say "just girls". You have to say Girls with respect.

 

RGN: In the game, who cooperates with you most?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: It’s Miele because she's the one who usualy ganks around and visits my lane. She's the one when calling, we have to listen to her everytime. And, I’ll second-the-motion to what big sister, Kat, has said . She’s the best female support ever.

 

RGN: Being a gamer and a student as well, how are you balancing your life?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: I’m a student by day, gamer by night, HAHA. Hmm, I’m a fast learner, and I have photographic memory, also called as “stock knowledge”. So usually, I just sit inside the classroom, listen to my professors, take down some notes, and I can remember everything that he or she is teaching. When I get out of the classroom, I don’t have to review or study anymore, it’s already stucked in my mind. That allows me to spend the times after my class on playing Dota,haha!

 

RGN: Besides DotA, what else are you playing?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: Tetris! hahahaha. I played Crossfire, Counter Strike and many other games before, but I stopped playing them when I entered the competitive DotA scene.

 

RGN: Amongst the entire of male players locally and internationally, who catches your attention and why?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: THIS. IS. THE. HARDEST. QUESTION. hahahaha! *DEEP BREATH* Okay, game on. In local, it’s Julz of Mineski.Pcolor . He really has the skills and talent. He can own his lane. If he goes the other way, he has his way of recovering. Even if you pawn him, he can still have his items in normal time range. How can he do that? -.-

In global? Hmm, it’s team Orange Esports. They have good harmony and chemistry that helps them win games and being champions. Awesome individual skills and team skills are very good in teamfights and clashes. And outside the game, they are so friendly and fun to be with. But in mention, it's kY.xY. He can farm so fast, especiallywith his Tiny and Windrunner. AUTO Shackle!

 

RGN: What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a girl gamer?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: This is important. Hmm, advantages? Of course, it’s very overwhelming when you're a girl gamer. Because many other gamers admire you like "Whoa! How come this girl can play DotA very well?"

Disadvantages? Girl gamers and girl gaming community are not given enough attention and the spotlight that we need. We are just like “saling ketket" (not really included ) , and that is the sad case . </3

 

RGN: We all know that all girl gamers are nice to watch, have alot of fans, but are you experiencing discrimination at somepoints?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: Of course yes . Being a girl gamer doesn’t mean that we are perfect, and being respected ALL OF THE TIME. There are still some people out there who still do trashtalk and discriminate us. They said that we could not play like them, and achieve what they have done. And the part that i hate the most is that some people discriminate us based on the LOOKS. HELLO? This is a gaming competition, not a BEAUTY PAGEANT! So if you’re telling me that LOOKS can make you win games and championships, then why not just participate at fashion modeling or beauty pageants?

 

RGN: What is the most memorable experience that you had when being a girl gamer?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: Hmm, it’s having a championship crown , HAHA. Of course, who would forget that? I can’t forget the feeling that every hardships and trainings we've been through did not go into waste . And also, when we played on stage at the SM North Last October PGF. That was the first time I played on stage, so shy lah! HAHAHA

 

RGN: Do you have any lovelife right now?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: LOVELIFE? OMG, what is that? HAHAHA. Is this a food, an object, or animal ?LOL! Just joking . Actually, I don’ have boyfriend right now, but I have a special one. And he serves as my inspiration and motivation. Ooh, this questions makes me blush! HAHAHA . :">

 

RGN: What is your secret behind strong gaming style?

PMSki.anGeL.<3: Thank you if you think I’m strong, but I never think that I’m. I always think that I’m noob, so I would push myself for improvement. I don’t wanna stop learning because I believe that there is always someone better than me, and there is always a room for improvement . I don’t strive to be perfect, I just work to be the best. :)
