The details are in! In a recent press release (dated 4th July 2012) by the organizers of the Asian ESports Cup (AEC), CyAC (Cyber Athlete Competition), tournament officials detailed the competition structure for the national qualifiers for both the StarCraft 2 and Counter-Strike 1.6 categories. With some qualifiers already in session, the preliminary rounds look to be in an impressive state. Here Rapture Gaming will provide you with the lowdown and more.
The StarCraft 2 category, which will feature a total of 11 participating nations, will be played out in eight different qualifiers. Qualifiers for the joint national SC2 qualifiers between Singapore and Indonesia will take place at TGX in Singapore, which is to be held on the 7th to 9th of September. Qualifiers for the joint national SC2 qualifiers between Malaysia and Thailand will be held the coming weekend (13th-14th July) at TGX, Thailand. Information on the joint qualifiers for the Philippines and New Zealand have yet to be announced but all interested parties are advised to keep tabs on the AEC official homepage. More details on the all the mentioned qualifiers can also be found on sc2sea.com.
As for the CS 1.6, a total of four countries will be represented at the grand finals in Japan, with a total of four independent national finals to be conducted in each respective country. Open qualifiers for Singapore will play out from the 21st of July 2012 at Funan IT mall with the national finals scheduled for the Viewqwest booth in TGX Singapore, 7th to 9th September. Qualifiers here are not restricted to Singapore contestants only and competitors from all across SEA, with the exception of Malaysia, will be allowed to participate.
Adopting the role of title sponsors for the Singapore qualifiers marks Viewqwest’s second entry into the eSports scene this year, validating their stance as a strong proponent for local eSports. “Viewqwest has always catered to the gaming community and see TGX as one of the premium gaming events in Asia. Being a keen supporter of e-sports in Singapore, Viewqwest is privileged to be part of TGX, providing the fastest fiber broadband, which enables players to compete in a lag free environment,” submits Vignesa Moorthy, CEO of Viewqwest.
In addition, the Malaysian CS 1.6 qualifier is slated for play over the weekend of 14th to 15th July, 2012, at Invasion Interactive, Kuala Lumpur. Registration for both Singapore and Malaysian qualifying games has since opened on the 18th of June, 2012. Once again interested parties are advised to keep tabs on the official homepage.
Winners of all joint/independent national finals can expect to compete in the grand finals in Tokyo when the AEC commences on the 20th of September. National representatives will vie for cash prizes totaling at over 1,640,000 JPY (approx US$20,000). Alienware is the official hardware sponsor of the AEC and contestants to the AEC games at TGS will ply their trade over the Alienware X51 computers.
