Going into the DotA 2 Invitational in Malaysia in December, team MUFC will have little to fear as they do so on the back of being crowned the champions of the World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2011 for both DotA categories, DotA 1 and DotA 2. Having played together since early 2010, MUFC eSports from Malaysia is a professional multi-gaming organization formed by Mr. Jerry Kok with the DotA division led by their astute skipper Raymond "Sharky" Wong.
WCG AC 2011, which took place in Indonesia in the middle November 2011, saw 14 countries within Asia dispatch teams across four official WCG categories to compete for top honors and bragging rights. The most popular title of the series, Defense of the Ancients (DotA), and its successor in waiting, DotA 2, attracted the biggest participant attendance and the beaming-eyed fanboys were not disappointed by the spellbinding-brilliant play by the Malaysian entrants, MUFC.
“It was pretty good and pretty tiring,” relates Daniel ‘TooF***ingGood’ Wong, one of the heroes of championship winning team. His team had to see off some very serious competition enroute to the grand finals, beating off fan favorites, Velocy from Indonesia in DotA 1 and Mineski from the Philippines in DotA 2. “The nerviest moment of the tournament was definitely when we were losing to Mineski in DotA 2 (grand finals),” recalls Daniel, “actually I would say that both China and the Philippines were very tough and worthy opponents to compete with.”
Winning any tournament, especially of this magnitude, is of no easy feat. Yet prior to the games, the tenacious troops at MUFC were not quick to cram extra trainings into their practice regime. “I wouldn’t say we had to train particularly hard but we conducted regular trainings 3-4 times a week,” revealed Daniel, “we focused more on DotA 1 because not many teams were playing DotA 2 (at that point of time) which made it hard to find a team to train with.”
The heavy emphasis on consistency aside, Daniel ‘TooF***ingGood’ Wong, was quick to add that tricks and special set pieces were a staple for any pro e-gaming team. However in hindsight, Daniel informs that actually none of the rehearsed “special tactics” came into play. “We had not perfected them (the “special” tricks), and so we weren’t confident at using them at the WCG AC.” But despite the absence of the ingenious set plays, MUFC stuck by their guns and managed to put out fundamentally strong performance game-in game-out up till the grand finals. “We have Ling, he plays the best Enchantress in the world!” He adds.
“We would like to thank our CEO, Mr. Jerry Kok, who spent a lot of time and effort on us! A big thanks to our management team who worked hard for us—Chenizace, Kiyawnz and so on, especially to our sponsors, Invasion Cyber Zone, Tt eSports and all the partners of the organization! And also to my parents and fans!” Laughs an enraptured Daniel at the achievement of his team.
In parting, Daniel was fervent at reassuring fans of the team’s continuous pursuit of gold and glory. “We will keep on playing together and win more championships to prove that we are one of the best in the world!”
