It seems as if the number two is quite the charm number for DM.Xian. Representing Singapore at the Canada Cup 2012 with his teammates from DM (Desperation Move) for the second time in two consecutive years, Xian has achieved the unprecedented – bagging two gold medals, one in Super Street Fighter 4 (SSF4) and another in the King of Fighters XIII (KoF13) and thus earning himself a well deserved spot in the hall of fame for Singapore’s fighting-eSports.

Speaking to us inside his usual haunt and training facility, Tough Cookie Gaming Café, the double winner appears all too coy when discussing his most recent accomplishments. “The victory at the Canada Cup is the biggest victory in my career,” Xian collectedly states, “previously, all my wins were placings, for example top 16, [and apart from] the KoF tournament because there wasn’t many participants, I’ve never managed to win a major tournament.”
Visibly elated yet understandably modest, Xian, who only recently returned to Singapore in November very magnanimously dedicated his triumph to the many outstanding gamer in Singapore he finds lack exposure and a decent opportunity to shine. “Being able to bring pride to the country and show that Singapore has a lot of great gamers is something I am very proud about. The problem is I feel that Singapore has many great players but [opportunities like this] doesn’t really happen often.”
Recalling team Singapore’s exploits at the previous Canada Cup in which a SSF Turbo medal was all they could show for, Xian’s coup represents a big achievement in the local eSports scene. However despite his near flawless showing, the dexterous SSF exponent did require a little help in his final match up before going all the way to bring home the gold. “Margo (Xian’s SSF4 final opponent) had figured me out. He won me 3-1 to reset the brackets (having fought out from the losers bracket) and that was when I had to call for a break,” admits Xian who later, on the advice of Zhi Liang Chew, his spectating wingman, took the remaining sets in impeccable fashion.

Having happily settled back in Singapore from his exhausting but undoubtedly exhilarating journey of America’s northern neighbor, DM.Xian eagerly looks forward to some lull time over the festive period. Working at Tough Cookie Gaming Café, Xian looks content to play in the odd local tournament in the meantime before setting off for France early 2013 for his next major competition.
“I would like to thank all my friends, teammates at DM and Tough Cookie Gaming Café!—this was all possible because of them, as well as my fans and Rapture Gaming (for the interview),” laughs the very amiable gamer.
