The StarCraft 2 conundrum — to expand or not to expand and when. While astute players decide only after careful surveillance of the enemy’s resources, the less adept ones may choose to do so at the flip of a coin. Flash e-Sports, one of the Singapore’s biggest pro gaming teams, has recently announced its plans to expand its current pool of StarCraft 2 gamers from 2 to 5, and their owner-founder, Terence Ting, states that this process, which has been in the works for a long time, is a very calculated one.

“We’ve wanted to expand since late last year, but kept vigil because we wanted to get the right players and not make a smash and grab out of it,” explains Terence. The official unveiling of the players, which took place on Sunday, 15th April 2012, is set to herald the dawn of Flash’s massive siege on the competitive StarCraft 2 scene. In no particular order, the intrepid trio are, Bryan ‘draKe’ Sum (Terran), Ryan ‘Kyzersoze’ Low (Zerg) and Thomas ‘Blysk’ Kopankieciewz (Protoss). This expansion, the owner stresses, will present the team the option of an in-house Protoss player to spar with, a luxury they didn’t have with Muse and Revenant playing Zerg and Terran respectively.

Baring which, Terence is extremely pleased to declare that the Flash e-Sports StarCraft 2 team will be very well represented across all races in future tournaments. “These are undoubtedly unique talents in the local scene and they will add more depth to our StarCraft 2 squad.  [This] will enable Flash to participate in some upcoming regional team leagues that we’ve been invited to—which was impossible last year because we were on a two man roster of Revenant and Muse.”

On the back of this recent expansion, Flash has also teased the possibility of packing more muscle in the other departments. “We have had plans to expand into other games for a long time, most notably MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), after letting go of our League of Legends team recently. [Though] we are now satisfied with our new additions, we have already confirmed another gamer in one new scene,” and Terence hints that he is the only WCG gold medalist to have originated from Singapore. Who exactly is he? Well the good-humored founder will have you wait for the official confirmation to learn that—and even that is not too far away.
