Rekanise looks to turn up the heat at SC2 IeSF, TGX 2012

For three days starting on the 7th of September, gaming hopefuls from all across the nation and beyond will be taking to the Singapore Expo halls for The Games Expo (TGX 12) for their shots at a place in the history books. Of the five major tournaments that will be played at TGX 12, the StarCraft 2 tournament by the International e-Sporting federation, or IeSF, will certainly be one to watch. Following his team’s encouraging display at the WCS Blizzard tournament, team lead Alaric “Rekanise” Choo of team Eve will fighting more so now than before to keep his outfit’s chances for a medal up.

“The idea isn’t really to win but more to take out a few players to make it easier for my team to win,” reveals the captain, “we’re a pretty tight knit team and while we always aim to show… well results are not everything to us.” Banking on their star talent Yekke (Jason Chan), who was made first runner up to Flash’s Revenant at the recent WCS SC2 competition in July, Alaric hopes this sneaky strategy of his will up the odds of an Eve gold medalist.

Onlookers may argue that this mentality is of detriment to the flow and sporting nature of the game but Rekanise is hardly fazed given his semi-retired state in the game—and also because at the highest level, the pros would tell you that any strategy is fair game. “To be honest it has come to a point where I’ve taken a back seat. I am semi retired because of the numerous commitments in life and will be graduating from NUS (National University of Singapore) [at the] end of the year where I will probably stop gaming and take on a more administrative role in the team.”

However, the full-time student is adamant that he will play his best and put on a good show when the time comes. “I like to play an aggressive style of play to shake up the game,” the captain points out, “I like to be controlling the game momentum.” Ramping up training sessions and video analysis in the last week or so before the actual tournament, rivals will be wise not to take the clan lightly because team Eve’s definitely not in the IeSF to make up the numbers.

“I would like to present shoutouts to my team and our various friends who have supported us, as well as our sponsors, aftershockpc and own3dtv.com!”

If you’d like to catch Rekanise and his band of brothers in action and or show your support, head on down to the Singapore Expo from the 7th of September to the 9th for the IeSF StarCraft 2 competition.
