Review: Filipinos' shadows covered the GEST IDC June

GEST IDC June edition was off the hook, giving its fans the actions and thrills that they had been expecting. Early in the tournament, we found our predictions to fall in place with MsiEvoGT advancing to the playoffs by sweeping their bracket. Also, Mineski though an early lost to iZone Gigabyte, maintained the composure to lead in their bracket and automatically advanced to the final 8. After these results, big revelations did follow as Orange ESports, the favorite to dominate in Bracket D, lost to Ritter_ART, and Pacific Palit. However, Orange still managed to advance to the 2nd day of the tournament.

Another big surprise was Thailand’s very own Tell Me Why putting up an upset against heavy contender iZone Gigabyte. With both 2-2 record in bracket C, Neolution from Thailand and iZone Gigabyte from Philippines was force to do a tie breaker match which resulted to a Filipino’ team win. In a meanwhile in Bracket B, the “bracket of death” also had its own revelations and tie-breaker. Under the radar team TinhYeuDota from Vietnam also did an upset against powerhouse Ledion Dreams SS and iDeal Gigabyte. Their lost to TinhYeuDota forced them to fight each other for the last slot in day 2.

In the 2nd day of GEST IDC, we saw 6 out of 7 Filipino’ Teams getting advance in the next round with TinhYeuDota from Vietnam, Cambodia’s SVR_ES, Thailand’s Tell me Why, Malaysia’s Orange eSports and Invasion Red, and the undefeated Ritter_ART from Indonesia.

Early wins from iZone, Dreamz, Pacific Badburn, and Orange gave them slots to compete for the Final 8 which included the bracket seeds MsiEvoGT, Invasion Red, Mineski, and Ritter_ART .

Undefeated teams from day 1 MsiEvoGt and Ritter_ART found themselves in the cliff of the edge as they were defeated right ahead by iZone125 and Badburn respectively. While on the other matches, Dreamz and Orange failed to outwit Mineski and Invasion Red resulting them to drop in the tournament.

In the Semifinals, Mineski was doomed by Badburn’s Goblin Techies, detonating bombs all over the map, making it harder for Mineski to execute their game plan. On the other match, iZone125 made Invasion Red suffer the second defeat of the tournament by making them fall to face Mineski for the battle of 3rd place.

Clearly this early in the tournament, we can expect to have another champion from the Philippines as Pacific Badburn will go up against iZone Gigabyte in the best-of-three finals.

iZone125, the 2-time 2nd round placer of the tournament drew first blood as they dominate the first game of the series. Holding them in the brink of elimination, Pacific Badburn, who went through a qualifier just to be in this tournament pushed iZone to even up the series at 1-1.

Game three of the series was an intense one. iZone Gigabyte was fortunate to land Dragon Knight, one of their ace heroes together with Queen of Pain, Shadow Demon, Admiral, and Windrunner. On the other hand, Pacific Badburn chose Omniknight, Earthshaker, Ancient Apparition, Faerie Dragon, and their saving grace, Morphling. In the early game, it seemed like iZone Gigabyte was poised to take their first ever GEST championship when they were wrecking the towers of Pacific Badburn one by one. But, suddenly, here come Morphling. Executing the proper skills on the right time was the biggest factor that switched the game’s tempo making Pacific Badburn become our GEST IDC Champion for June.
