Counting the days to FD2L Season 2

After a hugely successful outing first time round, the good people at Flash Esports announced the return of the Flash Dota 2 League (FD2L) earlier this month. Like Season 1 before it, FD2L Season 2 will feature two categories; the Open Category – to be played on the 4th of May, and the Professional Category, which will play out the day after. Recently confirmed were the teams for the professional category and those include a slew of familiar names, including the likes of Zenith, DsD and First Departure, the three biggest winners from previous season.

Kicking off the event on Saturday will be the Open Cat, which will feature 32 teams amateur teams vying for cash and prizes totaling over SGD$1,100. Winners of this category may be invited to play the big boys come Sunday should there be any no-shows or disqualifications there, leading to the possibility of testing one’s mettle against some of the country’s best. Registration for the Open league has since closed, as of 26th April, 2013.

The stakes in the Professional Cat’s significantly higher, with teams playing for more than SGD$2,700 in cash and prizes. A total of 16 teams from Season 1 have been invited to contest in the Professional pool though many observers will have their money riding firmly on the usual suspects of Zenith, DsD and First Departure. Having made off with SGD$1,700 in Season 1, team Zenith walked away the biggest winners—a good $500 over First Departure. Looking to reinforce status quo, many will look to the outfit, led by Season 1’s MvP iceiceice, to repeat the antics which have won them so many accolades in recent years.

The mixed bag with the potential to cause a few upsets will be teams [L]ittle and fAze Sohaijor, who did manage commendable displays against the big three in the reverse encounters. While there has been no word on the whether the recently unveiled Flash Dota 2 team, Flash.D2, will make an appearance at the event, there is a lingering hope that they will somehow make the Open Cat in their baptism of fire.

FD2L Season 2, sponsored by SteelSeries and eClub, will play out at the Alienware Arena, Chinatown, Singapore. For more information on the event, head on over to the official webpage at http://www.flash-esports.com/dotaleagueseason2/registration
