GEST February 2012: StarsBoba, the return of a hero

Teams DotA StarsBoba, the representative of Vietnam, has involved to the GEST tournament in February 2012, and won the second prize with USD$700.

Skynet, the other representative of Vietnam, stayed in Group C with some “heavy” rivals were Trust (Thailand) and RedSpade (Brunie). On the first day, Skynet played well and got draw matches with both Trust and iZone. Unfortunately, they had to stop the game on the 2nd day of competition, when they were subjugated by the Trust (Thailand).

Also in Group D, it was considered as a chanllenge to StarsBoba with the appearance of “Stars” such as MYM, XctN, and G7. But the MYM (Singapore) should suddenly give up. StarsBoba drew with the XctN, “knock down” G7, and went to the next round.

On the 2nd day, only 4 team came to this round: StarsBoba, Trust, Mineski and Neolution. Mineskie vs Neolution, and StarsBoba vs Trust.

From the start of the game, Trust has dominated because StarsBoba have problem with Ping and they lost in less than 30 minutes.

Then, Starsboba met Trust at Lower Bracket because Trust lost Mineski (Philippines). StarsBoba determined not to give up. They eventually won two Thailand representatives, Neolution and Trust, and headed over the finals.

Realizing the problems caused by poor connection, StarsBoba chose Push tactics, using the speed heroes such as Venom, Furion, Syllabear…, combined with individual movements, and teamwork, they finally came over Trust and went to the final. StarsBoba made their fans suddenly excited when they made to the final, after a long time in silince on the international stage.

Back to the expected match between StarsBoba and Mineski, StarsBoba had good Lane control initially, but Mineski seemed to be able to capture the playstyle of Starsboba, plus the advantage with good connection, they used the Gank style to against Starsboba. Using Tiny’s combo, the victory was already belonged to Mineski after Jay did the kill to 5 Starsboba’s heroes in a row.

Accomplished the February tournament with the 2nd prize, plus USD$700, Starsboba have proved for the fans that they still maintain the rank as one of the strongest DotA teams in SEA.
