DotA 2 Challenge: The Evolution commences

Building on the success of the SEA DOTA 2 promotional tour 2011/2012, which involved a total of 112 gaming venues, including all 78 Valve Cybercafé Program Subscribers, organizers e-club are looking to bring the definitive successor of the widely acclaimed tour to a LAN shop near you. DOTA 2 Challenge – The Evolution, is a massive cross-causeway event which will play from the end of March till mid May 2012.

The 2 legs will be played concurrently in each nation at 4 different LAN shops in Singapore, and similarly 5 different LAN shops in Malaysia. Beginning 31st March, the preliminary rounds and local finals will boast a prize purse of RM 9,000 (qualifiers) and RM10,000 (Grand Finals) in Malaysia, and SGD2,400 (qualifiers) and SDG3,500 (Grand Finals) for Singapore. The top 3 teams from each respective qualifier will then be selected to take part in the Grand Finals where they will be presented the chance to duke it out with some of the most established teams in the region; Orange eSports and Armaggeddon.GizMo from Malaysia, as well as AEON Esports and MYM from Singapore.

Vincent, an e-club representative, explains that the upcoming series which is currently in session is to raise awareness and drum support for DOTA 2, the hugely anticipated sequel to DotA, Defense of the Ancients. “By increasing the amount of DOTA 2 players in the community, we aim to create more professional teams able to compete in future local and international DOTA 2 tournaments.” His counterpart Shaharun Nizam adds, “It is also an opportunity for (casual) gamers to experience DOTA 2 before it is out and for competitive teams to gain a leg up in preparation.”
