Half Time Talk with eMaster Vin

On the back of a solid outing at the recent Asian Indoor Games in Korea, the bronze medalist and Asia’s WCG 2012 FIFA Champion, is quite the force to be reckoned with. Currently playing for honors at the ongoing RGN FIFA Elite League, Vin Chew of Malaysia has plenty going for him but he is not one to take things lightly.

Speaking to us in an exclusive interview conducted by our man on the ground, Santanu, Vin expressed his delight at being conferred the special invite to participate in the RGN Elite League. “It’s my pleasure [to play here],” he indicated candidly, “I am honored to be invited as one of the Malaysian representatives!”

Of course, playing in the league with him, leOmeS, a fellow Malaysian and fierce local rival, presents a different set of challenges. Not only has he an opponent within the League who is familiar with his playstyle, sharing the responsibility of representing their homeland in a foreign contest can sap the motivation of winning sometimes especially if it means getting the other person into a more favorable position up the leader boards—however, Vin should not fall victim here given his tough psyche and industrious attitude.

Famed for his impenetrable defenses, Vin is resilient as he is determined. Speaking of his secret of success all these years the Malaysian puts in a cool one-liner stating, “Practice makes perfect.”  Adding that it is in his nature to play how he likes and in a manner he’s used to; always learning from mistakes of past and improving through practice.

Refusing to single out a particular opponent in the League as his “greatest rival”, Vin exudes a keen sense of professionalism and respect for his fellow contestants. “I think all the other nine players are top players,” he deferred, “all the invited players performed well in past years so the standard is even and anyone can upset anyone.”

And anyone can upset anyone indeed. Falling a game behind against leOmeS in the opening match up, Vin Chew finds himself in chasing the leaders of the pack as opposed to leading the pack, a circumstance which he would undoubtedly be more familiar with. Needing a good run of games to avoid the unthinkable relegation, the 2012 WCG Asia Champion assures everyone that he still has plenty of wits about himself and is certain here that he will not allow the pressure will not get to him.

Keeping himself occupied in the meantime with the formation of his new outfit, eMaster, after parting ways with his previous clan; Vin and his cousin, the co-founder, have much to look forward to in the coming weeks. Alluding to his past disappointment of not securing something more than a third place finish at AIMAG saying that he’d “wished to get a better result – a gold medal”, eMaster Vin will surely not let another dream slip by again.
