First generation:
The first generation of team Kingsurf was formed in the year of 2005 by Kingsley, the owner of Kingsurf Cyber Cafe. KS- Xiaogui was the only player from the first generation team. The team was formed by a group of good friends who frequented the Kingsurf Cyber Cafe. The identity of the founding group is unknown as it was a long time ago. The name of Kingsurf gaming was adopted from Kingsurf Cyber Café. Kingsurf Gaming has a Chinese name 金胜, which means golden victory.  The team evolved from team Kingsurf from 2005 May till June 2008, to now as Kingsurf Gaming with the inclusion of international teams. It didn’t take too long before they attained…..

Champion for the first time:
The very first competition team Kingsurf took part in was ESWC 2005 invitation representing Malaysia. Back then, this was the grandest DOTA event in the world, participated by all the top teams from different countries. The team itself pushed the decision to join the competition as they felt that they were ready to take on the world. Even though they were confident, they still treated every opponent equally. The manager gave his best support during the tournament and gave them full encouragement during the tournament. Kingsurf ended up winning the championship title for this event.  The team had lots of fun during the tournament and it was the start of many good things to come.

They continued to play the game competitively due to their love for the game. Everything won’t be possible if not for Kingsley, without him, the team wouldn’t have even been formed. In 2008, Eryc joined Kingsurf as the manager. He managed to secure Razer as an additional sponsor on top of Kingsurf Cyber Gaming.

To stay on top of the world: KS Dota does not have a fixed training schedule but normally, the team trains at least 15 hours a week. They treat each training session seriously as this is the only chance where they can improve on their teamwork and shape out new strategies. Other than training, Kingsurf’s manager has got his unique ways to support the team. He helps the team to reduce their stress during the tournaments by talking to them individually. This is so that if they have any problems, he can solve them and take it off their shoulders. The team prepares mentally by joking with each other and having a good laugh. This way they will not feel stressed out before the game and will enter the match with confidence. Eryc is very strict when it comes to giving their best for the match. He will not tolerate players who act selfishly or loses concentration during the match and has been known to exercise little restrain when he has to remove a player of the team if they are found to be not giving their best. As a result Kingsurf is reknowned for their precise teamwork. Kingsurf still balances their life as any normal people out there. They make sure they allocate enough time for everything else.

The path forward as a team:

As evident from the list of achievements under their belt, Kingsurf is the number one team in Malaysia and around the region. Their team’s replay download rate is rated top in the world, and this shows just how many people idolise and learn from Kingsurf. However, it wasn’t all sun-shine for this exciting team. Their most unforgettable lost was 2008 ESWC grand finals at San Jose CA. Ironically, most teams would be ecstatic at a second placing in such a grand tournament. When the inaugural world championship title was within grasp, a little mistake is all that separates the gods from the common people. As the saying goes “if you are not the first, you are the last”, this is what Kingsurf felt when getting second spot. As the team evolved from a full Malaysia line up to a mixture of Singapore and Malaysia player, this has not affected the teamwork play style of Kingsurf. With the current line up of KS-hyhy, Ks-Yamateh, Ks-Papaxiong, Ks-lemion, Ks-ToFu, Ks-Sakura, they are set to conquer the next big stage, the World Cyber Games 2009 Asian Championship.
