Defense of the Ancients, or DotA, has been one of the most popular eSports game titles with hundreds of tournaments each year and thousands of viewers watching. Live stream has played a big role in the electronic sports competitive scene, especially in DotA, since the early time.

Today, Rapture Gaming Network brings you an interview with the one and only, Toby “TobiWan” Dawson of joinDOTA.com, one of the greatest DotA shoutcaster in the world.

Toby “TobiWan” Dawson from joinDOTA.com

RGN: Hi Toby! Please introduce yourself.

TobiWan: Greetings to all, I am Toby Dawson, known to the internet world at ‘Tobi Wan’, I am a commentator for DOTA2 at joinDOTA.com

RGN: How did you get involved in the competitive scene?

TobiWan: I originally started playing in BF1942 and Vanilla COD ladders in Australia. We can blame an old school friend for getting me into that.

RGN: How does it feel when shoutcasting with thousands of viewers?

TobiWan: Of course, it feels amazing to know so many people enjoy what you do, and the more that tune in, the more pumped up I get.

RGN: Which one do you prefer, shoutcasting or playing?

TobiWan: I learnt awhile back that I have passed my playing prime (I am getting old), so commentating is where I focus most of my time. I enjoy both equally, but I am better at casting now.

RGN: Besides from Dota, what other games are you playing?

TobiWan: I generally relax playing Minecraft (currently building Minas Tirith), I do try and play a lot of DotA 2 as I feel that watching that game is only half the job, you need to try to understand it from the players perspective as much as possible.

RGN: What do you think about the teams playing DotA nowadays?

TobiWan: I think there is a lot of instability in the teams of DotA, something which will need to be resolved quickly as players will find out that sponsors do not care much for teams that disband or roster change every few weeks/months.

I would say also there are some teams out there which really have a good focus and are improving their skills to ensure they remain in the top tier of teams, it is those teams I enjoy watching.

RGN: Do you have any favorite team?

TobiWan: I like all teams that play a focused style and experimental approach, they are the entertaining ones. It is probably why Na’Vi is one of my favorite teams to watch.

RGN: How does it feel being named as one of the most exciting shoutcaster in the world?

TobiWan: hahaha, who gave me that name? I am just happy people can tune in and share in my excitement.

RGN: What are your plans for the future?

TobiWan: I am a man that lives week to week, so my future plans are pretty short and changing all the time. The goal is to keep improving and offering more.

RGN: What should we expect from TobiWan this year?

TobiWan: You should expect to see me casting almost every day, and when I am not, you can expect me to be at a LAN event or preparing more content for you to see.

RGN: Any shoutout?

TobiWan: I would say thank you to everyone, who has watched and still watches my stream, and for all the guys and girls at joinDOTA.com, who work hard to make our portal a bigger resource for the community.
