Chan Litt-Binn, better known as WinteR (or WtR for short) to his friends, foes and fans, has been in the eSports scene long enough to know that winning is a lot easier said than done. As an established member of the highly acclaimed Orange.Esports DotA team from Malaysia, WinteR has become accustomed to the massive expectations set by his team, sponsors and fans to each and every tournament he contends in. “It is not easy maintaining a high level of play,” asserts the veteran, “the pressure from sponsors will come in when you’re going overseas to play and the sponsors have invested a big sum of money for us to participate. But as you participate in more tournaments and have more training sessions, you will be to cope with the stress better.”

WinteR is one of the most decorated DotA players in the region has been long and lasting, with recent victories at the Electronic Sports Thailand Competition, 2011, and the KLCC DotA 2 Invitational, 2011, ensuring his mantel is never short of trophies. His successes can be attributed to his flair and talent for gaming as much as it is to his resilient nature and impregnable dedication. “I started playing games since I was at a very young age,” recounts Litt-Binn, “there were a lot of ups and downs for me. At one point, when I was in my final term of my degree, I could hardly find time to play. My level of play dropped so much that it resulted in me playing very badly in certain tournaments.”

Since that time, WinteR has amassed a wealth of experience in his stints and gaming exploits with his previous e-gaming clans such as AEON.[MUFC], Pro Gamers Arena, Cybertime and DNA, just to name a few. “When I started competitive gaming, I didn’t understand a lot of things and so I had the wrong mentality. As I played more in a team, I understood that at the end of a game, no matter how much an individual is able to shine, winning as a team was the ultimate result we wanted.”

“My current team manager, Kenchi, motivates me, drives me to achieve my dreams and goals. He is a great person and he will always be there to advise me and help me when I am in a difficult position,” relates the 22 year old, emphasizing the importance of an inspirational and guiding figure in one’s career as a competitive gamer. Yet, with or without his guiding light, Chan Litt-Binn is a hardwired winner. “Winning is everything,” he states coolly, “I am a person that will go all out to achieve the goals set by myself.” However, like any coin, there are always two sides to it, and so does our cold hard winner. “My team mates and I constantly discuss (tactics) and encourage each other especially during games; this is to avoid having the pressure get to ourselves.”

With 2012 having only just begun, we asked our talented MOBA athlete what his grand plans were for the year. “My goal would be to win the International DotA 2 tournament in Seattle in August. It’s the biggest DotA 2 tournament and the winner will bring home about one million dollar in cast!” But the participation in major tournaments aside, has also packed plans to help out in workshops and seminars to promote professional e-gaming. “Never give up easily,” advises Litt-Binn to newcomers to the industry, “work hard and you will see the results. Don’t expect things to come fast, and above all, be patient.”
