Meet up Duy Thanh

I started participating in Vietnamese FIFA community in the late 2006. Untill now, FIFA brings back so many things and unreplacecable scenes of my life.

To be honest, I’m a crazed fan of FIFA series, I’ve played FIFA since 1998 using the FIFA World Cup 98 version, back when I was 7. Although I was a little boy, I adored using a personal computer filled with applications. I was lucky to have a computer so I could play some minigames like Mario and Diana (The bomb game).

In FIFA World Cup 98, they had Vietnamese international squad with famous players like: Hong Son, Huynh Duc, Do Khai, Van Si Hung, which made me felt that it was all so cool. I remember using dial-up connection so I couldn’t play with other gamers. As the days pass, I played the later FIFA versions at home. It was quite good and it made me so confident about my playing level.

In 2005, I didn’t even know what is eSports, playing game to me was just simply a very good way to relax after school. When I was in secondary school, I played StarCraft and Football manager because of my low configuration computer.

One day, my friend gave me an invitation card to World Cyber Games 2005, I just asked myself “oh what’s World Cyber Games? Do they compete with each other in games?”. So I decided to go to Phan Dinh Phung stadium to discover the truth.

You know, World Cyber Games is like a real festival where gamers get the chance to meet up and compete. Besides that, the sponsors and big company of technology and information technology exhibit their products. Untill now I had a lot of chances to join the Vietnam World Cyber Games grand final, but the 2005 event was, without a doubt, the biggest and most impressive event to me.

I remembered entering the vivid lights area where there was hustle music, they were evidences of the big festival. I walked around the booth areas and found out about online games.

When I was playing the online games I heard an announcement from the master of ceremony, he said “everyone please assemble to the front of the stage, we are about to see the FIFA05 final game”. I asked myself how skilled they are? How can they be able to join the final game. It was a game between Nam Anh “b1uegh0st” Ta and Thanh Vy “Winnie” Tran, I saw them trying to use only the crossball and longball to attack each other. And I was shocked, they scored quite easily and well.

The final result, B1uegh0st who came from Hanoi was the champion of Vietnam World Cyber Games 2005.

When I graduated secondary school and entered high school, I decided to join the Hochiminh Musical University and had more time for gaming, my father also bought me new personal computer.

I bought the FIFA07 DVD and hoped to go pro and perform like B1uegh0st and Winnie. Incidently, when studying in Hochiminh Musical University I made friends with 3H|bAchDJ, he commented about how I was playing in the FIFA pro scene and this caused me to have strange feelings. He advised me to find www.fifavn.com to get more experience. I’ve learned how to play Fifa Online through the direct IP and I played with him every single night. You guys can imagine what it’s like to walk freely and to find the gold, yes, gold.

I’ve found so many friends on FIFAVN when I was just a newbie. To me, the guides on this forum were helpful, I got to know how to join the mIRC network and how to use a setup pad to play online with players around Vietnam.

I joined #fifa.vn on the IRC network, and recently a gamer asked me to play. I couldn’t remember his nickname but in that match I lost to him 0-5. I also recognized that playing with a computer made my playing style too simple and easy to anticipate. I won my first match 2 weeks after. The score was 2-0.

I remembered seeing about 32 players on the online @iRC network, #fifa.vn room. I tried playing hard to get the high rank, and to find a chance to join a pro team!

I join the Triple H team without any difficulty because I’ve made friend with bAchDJ and pitterbean before, so they refered me to join team.

By that time, Triple-H team was training in E-Live center which was too far from my home. So my team manager, Kahunavn sent me to stay at home instead of participating in every training day, I only had to go when the team has a meeting.

My very first game in 3H tag was the clan war match with 4EVE team,. I was chosen to play the first match wih [4EVE]Sonix. He used very good strong and fast players. Finally I lost to him 3-4, but it was a very exciting experience to me because I was playing under pressure.

The first tournament which I had registered when I was a freshman is FIFA VN Cup 1st was hosted by FIFAVN.COM. However, I couldn’t play because of my late appearance, it was a bad memory.

After that I joined Triple-H team and participated in the Ho Chi Minh Wolrd Cyber Games qualification and beat my opponent 6-2. Despite of that, I lost to another freshman 2-3. I decided to buy a personal gamepad, instead of playing using a keyboard.

Vietnamese FIFA season 2008 came with more projects including FIFA tournaments of ESVN. Firstly, it was VESC 2007, I started with winning some games but lost to [4EVE]TKKG, there could have been more chances for me if I had  won that game. But in VESC 2007 I played with my clan mates cheering me on, its was such a cool feeling. When you start training eSports, the vital secret of success is that you have to join a good clan/team, they have an important role to play if you want to go through the pro route. You can learn everything from your clanmates and improve your skills. Moreover, your clanmates always cheer you up during the tournaments so you can competing with 200% of your ability. I have had this feeling when Triple-H team was the campanion of VESC 2007, ELS Summer 2008 and World Cyber Games 2008 – that is when Trung Hieu “L2vn” To went down UDF|FIFAKILLER to get the oversea slot in participating WCG grand final in Seattle, USA. In the Vietnam language, this feeling called “phê”.

Still I adjusted and trained eSports, there are so many things that I have lost at the same time. Firstly it is the time, I played very hard and did not care about my studies. However, until now I spend time training in FIFA and preparing for the Triple-H team plans in the future. Maybe I can be a skilled eSports gamer, but firstly I must be sure that I have adequate passion with eSports.

Some advices for newbie:

– Make sure you have enough time for training, if not, please arrange and manage your time logically so that you can balance your real life and gaming life.

– Try to read news from famous eSports website like SK-Gaming, MYM and Gosugamers. It helps you to update your background of eSports.

– Don’t forget about researching on the replays and VODs of pro gamers.

– Always have a passion for eSports.
