proArmy takes the PES VN Cup
Written by Hieu    Sunday, 14 March 2010 01:14    Read : 1184 times PDF Print E-mail
The recent Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) VN Cup held in March was swept clean by the players from proArmy Gaming. Despite the cold temperature in Hanoi, proArmy Gaming brought the heat to the eSports arena, beating 80 other skilled gamers to bring 3 of their players to the semi-finals. proArmy's star player, Hoang Ha “Xesi” Le, ended up taking the championship title.

The gaming area

Gamers were left surprised when PFV.MrTino lost to No.1 and when Mander was knocked out by Mr.No13. But the biggest shock was when Sweet – the young leader of team uNs – lost to PFV.Hoang81 due to his lack of focus that day.

The early match between proA.Xesi and uNs.Batigol grabbed the attention of the gamers in the arena. Xesi was leading in the first match, but Batigol, with his amazing dribbling skills and unpredictable playstyle, leveled the score by taking the second game. However, in the third match (the competition was played in a best-of-three-rounds format), Xesi played very well, taking a convincing win over Batigol.

The quarter-finals

It soon became obvious that 2 team – proArmy and StreetTeam – were vying to sweep the competition, each of them having 3 gamers in the quarter finals. The 2 others slots belonged to players from PFV and uNs. proA.RuanYuAn proved his worth during this stage of the competition when emerged victorious over ST.xXxhunterxXx in two consecutive games, despite having trailed behind 0-2 at half-time in the second round (he eventually beat him 3-2 in that round).

proA.Akai after winning the semi-finals

The semi-finals came next. As the proArmy PES team had gotten 3 of its players into this stage, many were beginning to expect a finals match between two proArmy players. proA.Akai beat PFV.MeoTom 4-0, 1-4 and 2-0 to gain a slot in final game. In the other match, proA.Xesi triumped over proA.RuanYuAn 2-0 and 4-1, confident of taking the next round.

The finals felt more like a friendly spar than a high tension match, due to the fact that it was a proArmy vs proArmy matchup. Xesi softly won Akai 1-0 to clinched his next title (the finals was played in the best-of-one-round format).

Short interview with the champion Hoang ha “proA.Xesi” Le:

Congratulatios on winning the PES VN title again! How are you feeling about it right now?

Xesi: This is the third time that I've gotten to play in a finals, and the second time that I've emerged as the champion, so I guess I'm feeling a little nostalgia here from my previous experiences. This time however, the PES VN Cup didn’t see too many sufficiently skilled players participate. I tried my best though, and I think that I deserved my win.

Which was your most important match in the tournament?

Xesi: Hmmm, I think it was the game against uNs|Batigol – my rival opponent from the PES 2008 days. It was the first time that I've beaten him haha.

So he was your toughest opponent?

Xesi: For sure! Like I said, This is the only time that I've beaten him in an official tournament match.

proA.PES players (from left to right) Akai, Xesi, (unknown) and Ruan Yuan

proA.PES managed to get 3 players into the semi-finals. Do you think that says anything about your team's condition right now?

Xesi: Definitely! This result is a testament to the power of proA.PES at present. It goes to show that we we've trained hard and in the right way.

Whenever SirTY took part in a tournaments, a young, attractive lady would always be found standing next to him. In Vietnam's World Cyber Games 2006, participants of NetChua Cyber Games Hanoi were astonished to see this girl's overwhelming combination of Zealots, Dragoons and Archons annihilate her opponent's forces. They realized that this girl was no joke; she was a real female StarCraft player.

Written by RGN    Wednesday, 16 December 2009 17:49    Read : 902 times PDF Print E-mail

Press Release - 2009 IeSF Challenge, the first step to the ‘e Sports Olympic’

- Approx. 200 players and staffs from 20 countries participated
- Team South Korea ranked 1st place
- IeSF(International e Sports Federation) General Meeting, approved 6 more member

The world’s first international official e sports competition, '2009 IeSF Challenge' came to an end with a big success in Taebaek, Korea, a rising Mecca for e sports. This showed the potential for IeSF Challenge to be an e Sports Olympic.

'2009 IeSF Challenge,' extended over 5 days from December 10 to 14, was directed by the International e Sports Federation(IeSF) and Korean Creative Content Agency(KCCA); hosted by Taebaek City, and sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism(MCST), Kangwon Province, SK Telecom, High1 Resort and Neowiz Games.

Unlike other international competitions, in this competition more than 200 world top players from about 20 countries joined on behalf of their countries. After competitive tournament, Team South Korea ranked 1st place. The medals of the 2 official titles, which were individual competitions, went to Su Hao from China (WarCraft 3) and Joo Young Kim from Korea (FIFA Online 2); and Team South Korea also won the 1st place in the promotion competition (A.V.A), which was a team competition.

During the competition, IeSF held a general meeting and approved 6 new member nations (Spain, Bulgaria, South Africa, Singapore, Romania and the United Kingdom). Accordingly, IeSF, founded last year, now has 15 member nations including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Taiwan and Vietnam.

IeSF, also, announced international standards for ‘Referee Committee,’ discussed referees and players certificates and had discussion for plans for a systematic development of world e sports, including expanding exchange among members, strengthening cooperation and establishing an e Spots Olympic.

Meanwhile, more than 20 media from world wide participated and showed great interests in Korean e sports industry and its infrastructures. Doug Hendrie, Australian freelance journalist, said “This competition shows that an e sport is growing as other international sports that can be enjoyed world wide, such as soccer and baseball.”

In addition, many Korean tourists visiting O2 Resort in Taebaek filled up every stadium and cheered the fascinating match of world top players. They participated in various events for tourists, such as ‘Winner guess event,’ costume play, caricature and etc.

There was an unveiling ceremony of IeSF Memorial Torch air-view on December 14. This 4-meter-tall monument, invested with 100 million KW, will be built in front of the O2 Resort Tower Condo by the end of this year. The torch will be lit before the start of the IeSF annual international e sports competition.

Won Suk Oh, Secretary-General of IeSF said “this is as announcement for the start of the e Sports Olympic, and IeSF will be an international sports organization by extending its member nations to 50 countries by 2013. I will do my best for establishing cooperation system and global standards of e sports around Korea, the host country.

Jong Gi Park, Mayor of Taebaek, also said “by this competition, Taebaek got a footing in game industry which will accelerate the growth of the city. We will invest 600 billion KW in next 5 years for establishing E-City and will be the center of e sports industry.
